ASI - Nitrous/Methane Augmented Spark Igniter
This is an ASI that runs off methane and nitrous oxide. Its design includes a spark plug, check valves, solenoids, and other parts as needed. Propellant flow calculations were done in excel, and the solenoids are controlled via an arduino. A custom adapter had to be built to load methane into a tank.
The ASI is machined from copper, with the fuel and oxygen streams coming in 90 degrees apart from each other. The nitrous oxide comes into the ASI horizontally, while the methane stream comes in at a downward angle of 20 degrees. A spark plug is attached at the top to ignite the propellants.
The throat insert is a stainless steel threaded flow control orifice, with a throat diameer of 63 thou. In the image below you can see the throat insert becoming red due to the heat.
